SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this individual is responsible for the operation of a neighborhood community recreation center and playground. The coordinator is in full charge of the center, subject to policies established by the Director, and directs its total operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan, supervise and direct recreational, athletic, art, craft, games, and other programs. Provide patrons with technical instruction and guidance in these various activities.
Inventory equipment.
Direct activities of assigned workers.
Maintain monthly playground and facility inspection checklist. Maintain order and discipline.
Attend monthly safety meetings
Initiate requests for recreation and athletic games and equipment and for maintenance and repair work as required.
Issue recreation and athletic equipment.
Schedule and supervise use of facilities by participant groups.
Maintain accurate time and work records and to submit various reports.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
At any given time, directly supervise ten or more employees in the recreation center including instructors, janitor, part-time staff, participants and volunteers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to plan, promote, direct, and supervise a comprehensive recreation program for a neighborhood center without close or continuous supervision.
Ability to utilize the skills of professional, technical, and volunteer personnel. Skills in the leadership of several types of programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Regular prompt attendance is an essential function of this position.
The ability to get along and promote a harmonious working environment with vendors, supervisors, citizens, and co-workers is an essential function of this position.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university preferred, High School diploma or GED required. One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, volunteers, managers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
