General Clerk: Cultural Affairs Assistant
This position falls under temporary status. In accordance with the City of Lake Charles Employee Handbook,
"Temporary employees do not occupy a budgeted position and are not eligible to receive any benefits provided by the City of Lake Charles. Temporary employees will work less than 30 hours each week."
Salary Level: Start: $10.00 (T10)
FLSA Status: Non-exempt - Hourly
SUMMARY
Under close supervision, this individual’s responsibilities include performing clerical tasks related to genera l office operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Type 30-45 words per minute.
Type correspondence s such as forms, letters, memos, listings and others. Assist in compiling data for reports and other documents.
Maintain or implement filing system.
Operate duplicating machine, facsimile, calculator and all other related office equipment.
Compile and maintain daily, weekly and/or monthly reports.
Sort and route incoming mail.
Receptionist duties.
Addition Duties Include:
- Assist with social media management, including content creation, scheduling, and campaigns for Historic City Hall, Central School, and Downtown at Sundown.
- Capture behind-the-scenes photos and videos of installations, events, and daily operations.
- Design basic graphics for stories, posts, and reels.
- Help maintain the social media calendar to ensure timely promotion of all events.
- Brainstorm creative ideas for new content formats, trends, events, programs, and exhibits.
- Support efforts to highlight local talent and reflect the diversity of the Lake Charles community.
- Assist with planning and executing gallery receptions, internal events, exhibit programming, and city-wide events.
- Set up event spaces, including tables, signage, décor, and tech equipment.
- Can lead a guided field trip or group tour with accurate knowledge and positive audience engagement.
- Assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, including handling artwork, preparing labels, and setting up displays.
Perform any other assigned duties. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Regular prompt attendance is an essential function to this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
